2016 Student Exchange

As with every year the students had a wonderful time, both in Busselton when the Japanese students were here and then about 6 weeks later when our students travelled to Sugito.  Although there were a few days of wet, windy and cold weather in Busselton it didn’t stop everyone going out and about to enjoy everything our region has to offer.

The exchange occurs in two halves – when the Sugito students come to Busselton and when our students travel to Japan.  The first part of the exchange involves, not only the exchange student, but the whole family when you have a student from another culture immersed in the family for a week.  It is delightful to see things we take for granted through the eyes of a visitor and  many families comment about how enjoyable this experience is.

The second part of the exchange is when the Busselton exchange student travels to Japan -   they are having this adventure without parental support and have to rely on the two group leaders to be their ‘parents.

BASSCA supports the students and families throughout this journey with meetings, advice and support while the Japanese students are here, but the highlight would probably be the cultural Infusion lunch where families were taught how to make Gyoza, enjoyed a Japanese lunch, watched an Iiado demonstration and  learnt, first hand,  of the experiences of people who have lived in Japan.
